1. What Clothes Should A Baby Sleep In?
According to The Sleep Foundation guideline, you should dress your baby in one more layer than what you'd find comfortable wearing while in the same room. On warmer nights, dress your little one in breathable cotton pajamas, sleeping bag, onesie or a light swaddle. When the weather is colder, go for a long-sleeved pajamas, onesie, or sleeping bag made with thicker fabrics.
What is TOG?
TOG, also known as thermal overall guide, indicates a clothing's thermal insulation. TOG rating tells you what's appropriate to wear for particular room temperatures.
Here's a set of TOG guidelines on
- 0.5 TOG – ideal for room temperatures 23-26°C
- 1.0 TOG – ideal for room temperatures between 21-23°C
- 2.5 TOG – ideal for room temperatures between 16-20°C
While this guide is helpful for parents, it's important to note that each baby is different and the number of layers and types of clothing you should dress your baby in depends on their health, physiology, and the room temperature.
For best practise, check your baby's body temperature regularly and make sure they don't overheat. It's also helpful to have a room thermometer for checking in.
2. What Room Temperature Should My Baby Sleep In?
According to Lucy Wolfe, author of The Baby Sleep Solution, it's important to make sure the room is not too warm for you baby and the temperature should be 16-20°C.
You should also never place the cot, crib or bed right next to a radiator, heater, fire or in direct sunshine.
